A GIRL'S DEATH.CORONER'S INQUIRY.
Not Satisfied With Evidence.

KALGOORLIE, Nov. 22.— At the conclusion of an inquest today in the Kalgoorlie Courthouse into the death of Hilda Patricia Moore (18), domestic, of Leonora, the Coroner (Mr. E. McGinn) found that deceased came by her death hi the Kalgporlie District Hospital, on October 18, from peritonitis and toxaemia following a septic abortion. 'This,' he said, 'is an open verdict, but I am not satisfied with the evidence.' Adelaide Moore, storekeeper, of Leonora, mother of the deceased, said that, on October 10, deceased went on a holiday visit to Kalgoorlie, ostensibly to stay with an aunt at Brown HilL On October 17 witness received a message that her daughter was seriously ill at the Kalgoorlie District Hospital, and, when she arrived at Kalgoorlie, she discovered that her daughter had stayed at a lodging house hi Kalgoorlie. Witness had no idea that her daughter was pregnant when she left home, and said that deceased was hi good health and spirits.
Ethel Skehan, a married woman, of Norseman, who formerly resided at Victoria-street, Kalgoorlie, said that, on October 11, deceased arrived at her house. Arrangements had been made for her to board and- lodge there. The girl was flushed and complained that she was suffering from a bilious attack. As her condition did not improve, witness called a doctor. It was discovered that the girl had had a miscarriage. She was ordered to hospital, where she died on October 18. Witness stated that the miscarriage did not occur while the girl was at her house. Dr. Violet Evflle gave evidence that she attended deceased on October 13, when she discovered that, the girl had had a miscarriage. Sergeant Clements: Did you not consider it your duty to report to the police when you found the girl hi that state? Witness: No. The Coroner: I consider that it was your plain duty to report to the police, so that they might have had the opportunity of obtaining a statement from the girl before she died as to how the miscarriage was brought about.

Death of a Prospector

On Wednesday last Isaac Morris; better known on the fields as (Ike Barlow) one of  the pioneers of the Murchison and Coolgardie fields, was killed at the crossing on the Trump Creek between Leonora, and the King of the Hills, by the upsetting of his dray. The Leonora Miner which chronicles the fatality, attributes its occurrence to the dangerous nature of the crossing placed over the creek by the North Coolgardie Roads Board. It adds: The crossing where this accident occurred. is a constant danger to travelers and should be at once widened; and fenced. The ‘Miner’ gives the following particulars concerning the victim of the accident.
The deceased was well-known throughout the goldfields as one of the ‘Barlow Brothers’, study, venturesome, sterling prospectors. He had been over six years prospecting with varied success in the King of the Hills district; in fact, Ike and his mates, were the original King of the Hills mine, which property they disposed of to the King of the Hills Company.

After that venture, other country was prospected and worked, and when the King of the Hills Company forfeited the lease (after erecting a battery and other machinery and working the show in a manner for years), Ike Barlow and his mates took up a 24 acre lease on the old workings for which they have obtained good gold. The party was working the mine when the accident happened which terminated, the life of one of the hardest working prospectors in the State.
